Story: Becoming the Pooka

Draft...

After the Six Splended Trees were created, many types of Spiders chose to drink from the blessed water and acquire perfect obedience. These Spiders began to starve and wither, for they were created to be disobedient and to be nourished by blood, not water.

Request to be changed.

Creator says they must remain true to their purpose: taking wholeness from others. But they will be changed to take wholeness without taking blood. "How is taking wholeness part of your plan?" they ask. "During the First Age I intended for all animals to have wholeness. During the Sixth Age this goal will return, and be realized completely, for Vigor was correct that a memory of lack is necessary for true wholeness. But during this Third Age my plan does not include wholeness for everyone." "Are any purposed to have wholeness?" one Spider asks. The Creator does not reply. "You must take wholeness to teach someone a lesson, and to create mirth or mischief. You may not act in malice. You may make lives disrupted, but not desolate." One Spider laments that there is currently no place where wholeness is available for everyone. "Because you request it, I will make such a place. It will be a hidden land, named Fair-Be. But you must rule it, and that burden will be great." "Gladly! But what will prevent everyone from going there? Surely a place where your life is intended to have wholeness is better than any other place!" "Not so, my child. Moreover, Fair-Be must be a trap: except for you, any who enter it may never leave. Furthermore, when someone enters it you will feel all the pain and sorrow they would suffer during the remaining days if they had stayed outside Fair-Be."
